Mrs. Leonie Lawson MNZM, established the Choir in 1998 and was its Director of Music from the beginning until 2019. She is a longtime Remuera resident, and recipient of the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music. She has been involved in music, particularly choirs, for more than 40 years and was the Director of Music at the Diocesan School for Girls for more than 35 years. Mrs. Lawson is also an adjudicator at a number of choral contests.
Mrs. Lawson continues to take an active role in the governance of the Choir and serves on the Choir’s Board of Management.

Recognised as a leading performer, teacher and examiner at all levels in NZ and internationally, Gina was the first NZ musician to be awarded a Rotary International Graduate Scholarship. Since her years of study and performing overseas, she has completed 15 international tours with engagements in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Pacific. With over 60 opera and oratorio roles in her repertoire, she has appeared as a soloist with every major choral society, orchestra and opera company in NZ, and is a NZ Concert FM artist.

An alumnus of the Auckland Girls' Choir herself, her passion for singing and choral music began then. Melissa is an all-rounded musician who enjoys composing, conducting, performing, and, most importantly, educating. Melissa enjoys working with choirs because she believes that singing can help develop fundamental skills for youth, and it can be transferable throughout your whole life. Melissa completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Waikato for classical piano performance, a Graduate Diploma in Music for voice at the University of Auckland, and a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in music pedagogy and education.
