Director of Music - 2019:  Leonie Lawson MNZM

Mrs. Leonie Lawson MNZM, established the Choir in 1998 and has been its Director of Music from the beginning.  She is a longtime Remuera resident, and recipient of the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music.  She has been involved in music, particularly choirs, for more than 40 years and was the Director of Music at the Diocesan School for Girls for more than 35 years.   Mrs. Lawson is also an adjudicator at a number of choral contests. 

Incoming Director of Music - 2020:  Amelia Giles

A versatile musician who is active in both the New Zealand instrumental and choral communities, Amelia began learning violin at the age of three through the Suzuki method, piano at age eight, and began formal singing tuition in her early teens.  Ongoing musical studies led to a M.Mus in both 'Modern' and Baroque Violin Performance, and an ongoing freelance career with both project based and long-term ensembles including New Zealand’s Baroque Orchestra ‘NZ Barok’ and the national chamber choir ‘Voices NZ’. She also holds international qualifications in Kodaly Concept Music Education and Choral Conducting.


Amelia is passionate about offering quality musical experiences that are rigorous, joyful, create excellence and seek to holistically develop strong musicians and people of integrity. She is also passionate about young people developing singing confidence and skill in order to express themselves and connect with others as part of a global musical community.  Amelia is a qualified classroom teacher with 15 years experience working with 5- 18 year olds.  Amelia will take up the position of Director of Music in 2020.
